Mangalore, Feb 24: The Karnataka State Tulu Sahitya academy today honoured two senior achievers and 30 young artists with the outstanding contribution to the field of Tulu literature poetry and threatre.

Well known Tulu scholar Dr K Chinnappa Gowda (head of the department of Kannada Mangalore University) conferring the honours stated that the Tulu academy has taken a positive steps towards encouraging the young talents especially when the Tulu as a language was getting recognized in other parts of the country.

Exhorting the youth to involve more in Tulu writing, poetry and dramatics Dr. Gowda stated that it was necessary for the survival of Tulu as a one of the major Dravidian language.
 
Seetharam Kulal President of the Academy on this occasion stated that the Academy would intensify its encouragement to research and writing. Mr.Kulal said it was the effort of the Academy to enthuse more Tulu scholars to write and research.

Two renowned tulu artists Peroor Jaaru editor of "Thoote" magazine and Anand Shetty Ashok Nagar  were also honored on the occasion.

Eight teams from across the district participated in Various Tulu cultural competitions organized by the academy. Each team was given 20 minutes to present folk dance, folk song and folk skit.

First prize was bagged by Kulal Sangha Surathkal while Yashaswini Mahila Mandala Mangalore secured Second Prize and Third prize was bagged by Ranga Sudarshana Sasihithlu. The honor carried a scroll of honour.
