Mangalore, Dec 25: The Tulu Nataka Kalavidara Okkoota here has chosen senior Tulu theatre artiste K.N. Taylor for its annual Taulava Award. It is given to a person who has made significant contribution to Tulu theatre.

Machchendranath Pandeshwar, president of the okkoota, told presspersons here on Monday that the organisation set up in 2003 had dedicated itself for the promotion of Tulu theatre activities.

The award will be conferred on Mr. Taylor at the annual day celebrations of the okkoota at the Town Hall here on Sunday.

Denis D Sa, administrator, Father Muller Medical Charitable Institutions, will inaugurate the annual day.

N.D. Shetty, head of the Department of Kannada, St. Aloysius College, will preside over the function. Mr. Pandeshwar said the okkoota would also extend an assistance of Rs. 3,000 to senior stage artiste Ramesh Kodikal on the occasion.

Noting that Mr. Kodikal had written more than a dozen Tulu dramas, he said the artiste was living in penury.

The okkoota would pay tribute to senior theatre artistes J. Ravindra, U.R. Chandar, R.K. Mulki, Vaman J. Kotian and Sharath Kumar Kadri in recognition of their contribution during their lifetime.
