Shiva Parvathi Temple Karinjeshwara or Karinja is one of the famous temples in South Kanara This also called as “Kailasa Parvata and Bhoo Kailasa”, because temple is situated on the top of hill and also covered by green, cool thick forest “Kodyamale” and hills.

Gadha Theertha (Mace):  A big pond in "Gadha" (Mace) shape - Gadha Theertha at the bottom of the Karinja hill is 237 meter long, 55 m wide and 7m deep size with clean water.

Parvathi Temple:  From the Beedi (main entrance from the road) you have to start stepping on the huge stone to reach this temple. In the starting point of Parvathi temple, you can see the “Vinayaka Gudi”. The journey on steep steps on a huge stone with the help of iron rods feels great. Once you reached “Parvathi Sannidhi” you will feel very relaxed and getting peace of mind.

Karanjeshwara:  Shiva temple is situated on the top of a hill, 1500 ft high from sea level, looks like temple is standing on a huge stone. The temple architecture is built by stones. You have to climb more than 250 steps to reach this temple from the “Beedi” (Main entrance). Once you started from Parvathi temple you will reach the Ukkadada bagilu”around 145steps it’s the main entrance to Shiva temple. After that you can find “Ungusta Teertha” (looks like small cave in stone), then you will reach to Shiva Sannidhi. The Shiva Sannidhi covered with “Shilamaya  Shiva” gharbhagudi (shiva statue) “Metina Gudi” and a “Naivedya Kallu” (granite stone), and offers an enchanting view of the surroundings.

Shivarathri is celebrated with great festivity and a number of devotees throng the temple to attain the Darshana of Lord Shiva. Most noteworthy feature is that as the temple bells rings, just after the main puja, A group of Monkeys (Karinja Dadda) gather near a granite platform, where they are offered Mooru Seru Akki Naivedya (about 3 kg of cooked rice). Devotees also offer coconut and bananas for the monkeys.

Special attraction: Mahashivaratri is the major festival celebrated here with much pomp and splendor. 5 days of festival “Tirtha Jagarane”, “Mitta Jagarane” “Rathostava” “Katte Pooja” “Dvaja Avarohana” are the 5 main attractions in the month of February month of the year. “Aati Amavasya” and “Shravana Amavasya” are other special festivals days that are celebrated.
