Talamaddale's giant talent Sheni Gopalakrishna Bhat was passed away at his residence in Kasargod on Tuesday July 18.
Bhat, 88, is survived by four sons.
Bhat, who had presented the ‘Yakshagana’ in over 1000 venues both in Kerala and Karnataka, had staged several performances till recently.
A recipient of several awards, including Karnataka State Government Award, Karnataka Folklore and Academy award and Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy award, Bhat had promoted ‘Yakshagana’, a fusion of drama and dance, more or less similar to that of ‘Kathakali’.
Bhat had enacted the role of several mythological characters like Maha Vishnu, Sri Krishna and Bheeshma
