Mangalore, Jan 27: The Dental Council of India (DCI) has ruled out any increase in the fee amount for the Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) programme, stating that the apprehension of the parents and students are baseless. The worry over the possible increase in the fee had arisen as the government had restructured the course duration into 5 years.

Mangalore, Jan 27: Dakshina Kannada district will achieve the target of sampoorna swacchatha jille (total sanitation district) by March 2008, said Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao. Delivering 58th Republic Day address after hoisting the tri-colour at Nehru Maidan here on Saturday, he said teachers have recruited for the newly sanctioned schools. Sixty Koraga families have been given RTCs so far.

Udupi, Jan 18: Sugunendra Thirta Swamiji of Puthige Math ascended the Parayaya Peetam ceremoniously at 5.45am and received the Akshaya Pathre which contained the keys of the Krishna temple and the prasadam of the last pooja made by the swamiji of Krishnapur Math HH Vidyasagara Thirtha swamiji. He earlier set out on a ceremonial procession from DandaThirtha near Kinnimulky and where he was brought to the Car Street in a Palanquin surrounded and followed by the devotees and other dignitaries of the temple town and some from the other parts of the country.  He later took bath in the Madhwa Sarovar and had a darshan of the Lord Krishna through the Navagriha Kindi and proceeded towards the Rajanangana to take part in the Paryaya Durbar.

Udupi, Jan 15: Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swami of Puttige Math said on Monday that the verdict from the court of the Additional Civil Judge (Junior Division) "shows that the forthcoming Paryaya [right to worship Lord Krishna at Sri Krishna Temple/Math for two years] will take place successfully by the blessings of Lord Krishna and Mukhyaprana."

Mangalore, Jan 15: The Mangalore-based Karnataka Bank Ltd. has signed an agreement with Dakshina Kannada Telecom District of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd., to accept payment of telephone bills at its 54 branches in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, according to a release from the planning and development department of the bank here on Monday.

Mangalore, Jan 13: An oil leak from the Mangalore Refineries and Petrochemicals Limited has allegedly polluted three perennial irrigation wells in the Atturkodi area of Kuthethur village near the refinery. These wells supply water to almost hundred acres of land.

Mangalore, Jan 13: Mangalore City Corporation will sign an MoU with Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) for the operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plants, said Deputy Commissioner M Maheshwar Rao.
